WHY IS MY AC BLOWING HOT AIR?

A/C Freon

You get into your car on a cold morning, and you turn the heater on to fill the car with warm and toasty air to start your day off right. On a hot afternoon when you are getting off work and your car has been baking in the sun all day, and you know that as soon as you open your car door that boiling air is going to come pouring out, it is like opening an oven door to your car. You turn on the A/C to cool the car down, and now your A/C is blowing hot air too!

This can happen for a few reasons; in this article, we will go over the more common ideas why your car's A/C unit is kicking out hot air.

A LEAK IN THE SYSTEM

If you've recently recharged your system and you noticed that the system is blowing hot air again after you just revived it, it could be because there is a leak in the system. When you have a hole in your system, it will lose the freon refrigerant in the system, and since there is a leak, you aren't able to have a secure seal to push out what cold air is in the system consistently. Thus, the hot and cold action you are getting.

YOUR A/C NEEDS TO BE RECHARGED

The most common and easiest fix is that your A/C system needs to get recharged. This means that you've used up all the freon on your order and now it needs to get refilled, like if you were to refill your gas tank. Very simple to go to a gas station or auto store and buy a can of freon, follow the simple instructions and your A/C is blowing out cold air again!

FAULTY COMPRESSOR CLUTCH

A more severe issue is that your compressor clutch is or has failed. The A/C compressor clutch is one of the essential parts of a vehicle's air conditioning system. It is the system that puts pressure on your A/C system and keeps the refrigerant flowing. Since this system is continuously turning on and off, it is no wonder that it will eventually wear and break. When there's a problem with the compressor clutch, your air conditioner won't blow cold air for long. A damaged, failing, or worn compressor can't correctly control the flow of refrigerant in the A/C system to deliver the fresh air you desire.
